Pronunciation Practice
The words contained in the table below, have been found to be difficult to pronounce for our students. We hope that with this exercise, you will be able to avoid or overcome these pronunciation problems:
1. Read each word aloud. 2. Record your pronunciation of each word in Springdoo (don´t forget to send a copy to yourself). 3. Post the link to your recording in the wiki "Pronunciation practice" in Moodle - Select the column: "first recording" 4. Click on each individual word and listen to the correct pronunciation. 5. Practice the pronunciation while you listen to each word. 6. Be aware of the words you did not pronounce correctly in your recording. 7. Record again your pronunciation of each word in Springdoo, and post the link to the wiki "Pronunciation practice" in Moodle - Select the column: "second recording" 8. Now, listen to your first and second recording. Any difference?
Some suggestions to improve your pronunciation: - Look up the pronunciation of words in an online dictionary (e.g.: Merriam Webster) - After looking them up in the dictionary, and listening to the pronunciation, record your own pronunciation and compare it to the one given by the dictionary. - When listening to a recording or video, pay close attention to how words are pronounced - When reading a text, think how the words you are reading are pronounced. - When writing a text, think how you would pronounce the words you are writing. If in doubt, use the online dictionary.
